A '76 full Colombian mare of total Meridian Meadows breeding, Bonita carried  the blood of many what are now considered top sustaining lines…her sire, a Reserve National Champion, a son of National Champion Belmonte, the first Resorte III son in the US; his dam a Hilachas daughter, the imported Lisana.  Her dam is a daughter of Relicario, of Desvelo lineage, out of the Top Ten Mare, Eblis inbred daughter, Maria Bonita.

Purchased as a 6 month old weanling, Bonita was many times winner in Bellas Formas since a yearling, and a lightly shown winner in Classic Fino, but never shown at Nationals, injured upon arrival when kicked by another horse in warmup.  Her get have readily made up for it, and no matter what stallion she has been bred to, almost all of them ever shown at Nationals have placed in both Bellas Formas and Schooling classes of all divisions, and have twice won her the title of Produce of Dam.

At age 25, Bonita still looked great and could still fino with the best of them; extremely quick and tight, and always in true gait, she had been  used occasionally for lessons and trail, at least on slow rides where she can keep up…largo was not her forte, but her fino was as classical today as it was in her heyday.

Bonita died valiantly of a twist about 11 hours after birthing her last foal, Eblis Chiron de Reino,  doing all she could  remain standing to nurse her foal until the vet came….and collapsed as soon as the vet made her walk forward.

I have retained 2 of her daughters for breeding, La Diva (by Hilachas son, Frijol que tal), making her a double Hilachas,and La Clasica (by Favorito son, Clasico, she being a multi-linebred Eblis), who just might hit the showring one of these days!

Her last orphaned foal, Chiron, has won the heart of his owner, as Bonita won mine!
