Great Blazes Farm Paso Finos

Elena Salago

(El Gavilan Cabal x Mirada Salago)

Elena is a very dark black/brown 14.2h ¾ Puerto Rican, ¼ Colombian 1981 mare, and a former successful endurance/parade/show horse, bred on the ranges of Idaho .

Her sire, El Gavilan Cabal, is a son of Top Ten Sire Mar de Plata, and the Puerto Rican Poquita Estrella LaCE, daughter of  Altanero LaCE, a son of the famous Triunfo and Guamanita.  She distinctly has the famous MdeP high elegant neckset.

Elena’s pure PR dam, black Mirada Salago, is a mare I showed myself for other owners very successfully both under saddle, in Bellas Formas, and also driving, a VERY versatile performance type horse, plenty of brio!  Her sire, Sizcocho LaCe, was a direct son of Sonador, the most important broodmare sire in Puerto Rico for many decades, imparting size, strength, substance and very balanced conformation, along with strong gaitedness.  Her dam, Malta La CE was a PR import and daughter of Caramelo III, also dam of such successful horses as Vieques LaCE and Astro Sombre LaCE.

Elena has been successfully bred to a number of stallions, including Favorito que tal, Cuadro Venidero, and Excalibur’s Embellazo, producing outstandingly conformed and well-gaited horses with excellent size and refinement, and mostly fillies. She is still a powerful horse to ride, the "old performance" type with action, a tight corto, but very fast largo.  As you can see from the photo above (age 26!), she is barely showing her age, and she can still fly!
